Spotlight on the Internet - Tyler, Texas Black Film Collection

SMU's Central University Libraries has digitized the Tyler, Texas Black Film Collection (as well as Carib Gold  from 1956, starring Ethel Waters and Cicely Tyson). This collection is comprised of six short subjects, nine features, and a set of newsreels, all produced 1935-1956. The African American films include comedies, dramas, news, and musical performances made outside the Hollywood system by filmmakers such as Oscar Micheaux, Spencer Williams, and William D. Alexander.
